Who Knocks so Loud: a Christmas Anthem

with 6 comments

We used to sing this Christmas Anthem acapella  with the youth. I found the real musical notation. The lyricist, composer, and arranger are on the music sheets. 1932 is eighty years ago, making it common domain.

  1. I have been trying for years to find a copy of this music, also one which we sang as a child. The composer is Ungemach, but I haven’t been able to locate the music. I appreciate your giving the text. Norm Meyer

    • dear Norm,

I used to have the music, but it will take a while to look for it. I know the melody by heart and I used this page to have the youth sing it. They did not need the music.

      Thanks for commenting!

      • Peter — My mother sang this in a children’s choir when she was small (about 60 years ago); now she and I sing it together every Christmas. Were you able to locate the music? I’d love to have it so I can give it to the choir director at our school.
        Thank you,
        Mandy

  3. Peter: Thanks for the update. However, I was not able to read the song sheets (too small). Assuming that you live in or near Oakland, and since I have a daughter living in Lafayette, CA, I would like for her to contact you, and maybe she could pursue further my search for a copy of the music. I have not been able to locate your address or phone no. Could you send me this? I would much appreciate that. For our children’s Christmas service, which had the theme of three Christmas trees, I wrote some words appropriate for this theme and set them to the tune of The Inn a Bethlehem, which I sang with the children. For this I did the best I could to put together the music notes as I remembered them. Norm

    • dear Norm,

I’ve never used the gallery of my website before, but the music sheets come out large as the full page img329 to img338. When you get img329, double click on the bottom right thumbnail and you get the next page.
