Christmas 2014

Nora, Joshua, Mark, and I moved to a beautiful house in a Home Owners’ Association near the Hilltop Mall in Richmond. The Ethan Allen piece was out in our garage, but Amish carpenters in Ohio made a beautiful buffet for it to stand on that matches perfectly. The way it graces our dining room, I thought it would also be a lovely Christmas picture and greeting to you this year.

For our Christmas song, Schlafe, mein Prinzchen, Schlaf ein.

For the Song in English, select: Go to Sleep, Little Prince, Go to Sleep

Christmas Greetings 2011

O Christmas Tree

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, how faithful are your branches.

In summertime your greenery grows

And through the winter when it snows

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, how faithful are your branches.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, how lovely are your branches.

You stretch your branches o’er the earth

And  glorify our Savior’s birth.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, how lovely are your branches.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, Forevergreen, your branches.

You greet the child of Bethlehem

and steadfast love is born again

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, Forevergreen, your branches.

(Translated by Peter Krey December 15, 2011, but the second and third verses, which are very secular are changed to celebrate the birth of Christ.)

O TANNENBAUM

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, du kannst mir sehr gefallen!

Wie oft hat nicht zur Weihnachtszeit

Ein Gruß von dir mich hoch erfreut

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, du kannst mir sehr gefallen!

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, dein Kleid will mich was lehren:

Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit

Gibt Trost und Kraft zu jeder Zeit,

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, dein Kleid will mich was lehren.

My Christmas card poem:

The angels’ words

lead heavenwards

and the Savior’s birth

will bring peace on earth.

So let us rejoice and sing

for our Bethlehem King,

who blesses us in everything.

We used to sing this Christmas Anthem acapella  with the youth. I found the real musical notation. The lyricist, composer, and arranger are on the music sheets. 1932 is eighty years ago, making it common domain.

I read Luther’s Christmas Eve Sermon and from it, here are some of his wonderful sayings, somewhat embellished (WA 10.1.J:58-95).

and a Blessed New Year!

Here is a Bible Study for Christmas: Prof. Robert Smith on Luke Acts.

There are many more Christmas and Epiphany posts in my website.

For example: Nora and I were married Epiphany, 1979. Check out the Wedding Program in the image there.
